V-Day Seoul
V-Day Seoul, a dedicated group of foreign and Korean citizens, have come together for the second annual bilingual production of The Vagina Monologues. We are raising awareness, through the play, to prevent violence against women and help shatter sex taboos in the Korean community. All proceeds will go to the Dasi Hamkee Center, which provides monetary, psychological, and vocational support to victims of sex trafficking here in Korea.

The event takes place March 15 and 16th, at the main Art Hall on the Chung-Ang University http://www.cau.ac.kr campus. We held one fundraising event, in Seoul, at The Wolfhound Pub in Itaewon. The community was called to donate money in a night filled with raffles, quizzes, cookies, and a desire to stop violence against women. The community donated well over 2 million won.

About V-Day
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues. 2008 marks V-Day’s 10 year anniversary and with it V-Day has introduced two new events, V-Day’s A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings on Violence Against Women and Girls, and the V-Day documentary Until The Violence Stops. In 2007, more than 3000 V-Day events took place in the U.S. and around the world. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $50 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns, launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded over 5000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq. The 'V' in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina.

What is the V-Day Campaign?
The V-Day Campaign is a catalyst for mobilizing women and men to heighten awareness about violence against women and girls. By creating this global community, V-Day strives to empower women to find their collective voices and demand an end to the violence that affects one in three women in the US and around the world.

V-Day Cast and Volunteers Come Together

The 12th of January saw all cast members of the Vagina Monologues and volunteers for V-Day come together for a get-to-know-each-other session and really focus on our goal of ending violence against women.

We got to know each other through some silly games, watched the V-Day video and listened to Malcolm Trevena (our only male volunteer!  Yay!)  talk about his experiences of walking with women in Northern Uganda.  We also had a sharing time where many people shared their stories.  Many tears were shed.  Some from laughing, some from crying.

A massive feed of pizza and Chinese  followed.

We all left with a sense of togetherness and a steely-eyed focus on our goals.

V-Day Seoul 2008 Fundraiser!

On the 16th of November V-Day Seoul 2008 had a very successful fundraiser at the Wolfhound pub in Itaewon!

Over 2,000,000 won was raised for the Daski Hamkke center.

Raffles were drawn, Vagina cookies were munched on and many V-Day t-shirts were sold while three minute massage angels wandered the floor and gave much needed massage relief to all who needed it.

The band "Quick Play" played a couple of great fun sing-along sets.

A trivia game was also played.  The questions are shown below.  How many do you know?
